Location: on-farm accommodations / near Brantford, Hamilton, Cambridge, Ontario
You will learn all aspects of growing and preparing value added medicinal and edible plants and field crops, including trees and shrubs. This position involves planning which herbs and edible plants to cultivate, seed/plant ordering, pest control, weed control, crop rotation, harvesting, drying, packing and marketing including farmers markets. You'll work with Richard (Naturopathic doctor) and Dan to learn how to make added products include preparing salves, teas and tinctures.
You'll learn native plant identification, identification and natural control of invasive plant species, birding, healthy soil preparation including compost teas, medicinal plants for wound care, fevers, rashes, and use and care of farm equipment and tools. You'll also be involved in promoting and helping to put on workshop(s) on medicinal and edible plants /natural first aid remedies.
You'll also learn how to adapt a conventional tractor to electric, and operate a solar powered electric tractor.
Learn about our volunteer work to protect farmland through the Langford Conservancy, grow the Greenbelt, and help new farmers to access land.
- Eagerness to learn about medicinal and edible plants, protecting farmland and reducing carbon emissions.
- Must be 30 years or younger and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Good interpersonal skills, some farming experience, shows initiative and is organized, able to work as a team-player and independently, drivers license and/or own transportation preferred, aptitude for mechanical and carpentry work, social media skills
Salary - $500/month
